Treatment of tubal heterotopic pregnancy with viable intrauterine pregnancy: Analysis of 81 cases from one tertiary care center
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Aug 30, 2020
Li JB, Luo XC, Yang JB, et al. - Via performing a retrospective analysis of 81 patients with tubal heterotopic pregnancy (HP) and a viable intrauterine pregnancy (IUP), researchers sought to report on the treatment and pregnancy outcome in these patients. Based on the treatment modality, the patients were stratified into expectant treatment group (29 patients) and surgical treatment group (52 patients, 36 laparoscopy and 16 laparotomy). Outcomes support surgical treatment to be a safe treatment option for tubal HP with a viable IUP. They suggest laparoscopic surgery as a potential risk factor for abortion. Expectant management of tubal HP with a viable IUP was observed to be associated with a high risk of failure, and ectopic pregnancy mass enlargement ≥ 50 % seems to be a potential predictor of rescue treatment.
