Treatment of tubal heterotopic pregnancy with viable intrauterine pregnancy: Analysis of 81 cases from one tertiary care center
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Jun 12, 2020
Li JB, Luo XC, Yang JB, et al. - Researchers examined the treatment and pregnancy outcome of tubal heterotopic pregnancy (HP) patients with a viable intrauterine pregnancy (IUP) via performing a retrospective analysis of 81 patients with tubal HP and a viable IUP at their center. For tubal HP with viable IUP, both surgical and expectant treatments are optional treatment modalities. They divided the patients into an expectant treatment group (29 patients) and a surgical treatment group (52 patients, 36 laparoscopy and 16 laparotomy). Per outcomes, surgical treatment is identified as a safe treatment option for these women, laparoscopic surgery seems to be a potential risk factor of abortion. A high risk of failure was observed in the expectant management of tubal HP; ectopic pregnancy mass enlargement ≥ 50% may be a potential predictor of rescue treatment.
