European Spine Journal Feb 25, 2021
Chu W, Chen X, Xue X, et al. - Researchers conducted the “all-factors-surgery” that including all levels of decompressions was performed on symptomatic Chiari I malformation (CMI) patients for the snake of eliminating all possible pathogenic factors and reducing the chance of reoperation. A total of 194 patients were included from January 2010 to December 2015. The improvement rate of symptoms, patients self-evaluation (improved, unchanged, worsened), Visual Analogue Scale score, Japanese Orthopaedic Association score, Chicago Chiari Outcome Scale score, the diameter of the syrinx, and complications were outcomes measures. This study’s findings demonstrate that symptomatic CMI patients undergoing "all-factors-surgery" had persistently high rates of symptom relief and rarely needed reoperation.
