Treatment of bipolar depression with minocycline and/or aspirin: An adaptive, 2×2 double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, phase IIA clinical trial

Savitz JB, et al. - In view of the evidence of chronic inflammation in bipolar disorder (BD), the efficacy of aspirin and minocycline as augmentation therapy for bipolar depression was tested. Observations revealed that aspirin or minocycline had no significant main effect on the mean change in Montgomery–Äsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) score across visits. For bipolar depression, aspirin and minocycline could be efficacious adjunctive treatments.
