Treatment of acute uncomplicated diverticulitis without antibiotics: Risk factors for treatment failure
International Journal of Colorectal Disease Jun 21, 2018
Bolkenstein HE, et al. - A retrospective cohort study was performed to evaluate the clinical course of uncomplicated diverticulitis (UD) patients who were initially treated without antibiotics as well as to identify risk factors for treatment failure. Results revealed that 751 patients presented at the Emergency Department with a CT-proven UD between January 2005 and January 2017. Researchers reported that higher risk for non-antibiotic treatment failure were UD patients with a C-reactive protein (CRP) level > 170 mg/L. When selecting patients for non-antibiotic treatment, clinical physicians should take this finding in consideration.
