Treatment modalities and outcomes of Fanconi anemia patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: Series of 9 cases and review of the literature
Head & Neck Apr 21, 2019
Beckham TH, et al. - In this study, researchers evaluated 9 subjects to quantify the treatment modalities and consequences of Fanconi anemia (FA) cases with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). They observed the tolerability of radiation therapy (RT) in most of the cases (4 subjects received adjuvant RT), however, 1 patient needed a treatment break and early discontinuation of RT. The best opportunity for the cure in FA cases with HSNCC was represented by early detection through screening permitting a surgery-alone approach. Adjuvant radiation with concurrent cetuximab seemed feasible with careful monitoring in subjects with adverse traits, although local disease control was occasional.
