Gupta G, et al. - Data from the United States Transplant Cancer Match Study (2003-2013) was analyzed to assess the risk for urinary tract cancers in kidney recipients with or without treatment for presumed BK polyomavirus (BKV) nephropathy (tBKVN). Reports describing BKV detection in tumor tissues in addition to the results of this study suggested an association between BKV and urothelial carcinogenesis among kidney transplant recipients.
