Treatment for lymphedema following head and neck cancer therapy: A systematic review
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Jun 05, 2019
Tyker A, et al. - Researchers performed the first systematic review appraising all established therapies for head and neck lymphedema due to head and neck cancer treatment. Searching four electronic databases including Scopus (Embase), PubMed (Medline), Clinicaltrials.gov, and Cochrane Databases from inception to September 2018 yielded a total 492 search results. Of these, 26 with 1,018 study subjects were eligible for this review. The scarcity of large randomized controlled trials led to the limited evidence for the effectiveness of all types of lymphedema therapy. Although manual lymph drainage is best studied, the efficacy of liposuction and surgical treatments have also been supported in a small number of patients.
