Treatment dose and the elimination rates of electrolytes, vitamins, and trace elements during continuous veno-venous hemodialysis (CVVHD)

International Urology and Nephrology Apr 05, 2018

Datzmann T, et al. - The correlation of dialysis dose and substrate loss for a broad range of dialysis doses was determined in this prospective study. In critically ill patients with acute kidney injury undergoing citrate CVVHD, the loss of folic acid, vitamin B12, zinc, inorganic phosphate, and magnesium was not clinically relevant for differently used dialysis doses of CVVHD, and the loss was covered sufficiently by daily recommended nutritional supplementation. For higher dialysis doses of citrate CVVHD, increased loss of ionized calcium was reported. A strict protocol must maintain calcium homeostasis to avoid calcium depletion.
