Treating nasal symptoms associated with rhinitis using the intranasal herbal ointment Biyeom-go: A prospective observational study
Clinical Otolaryngology Sep 05, 2019
Son MJ, Jung J, Kim YE, et al. - In this prospective observational study involving 58 patients, researchers examined the effectiveness and clinical feasibility of Biyeom-go for the treatment of nasal symptoms correlated with rhinitis. This research was carried out at the Woosuk Korean Medicine Medical Center in South Korea. Participants in the study were patients with rhinitis. For a total of 4 weeks, all patients received Biyeom-go treatment > 3 times daily. According to findings, Biyeom-go administration has been linked to significant improvements in total nasal symptoms scores and mini-rhinoconjunctivitis quality of life questionnaire scores in a time-dependent manner. After Biyeom-go treatment, the nasal endoscopy index also improved significantly at weeks 2, 3, and 4. In the nasal lavage fluid, significantly increased interleukin-2 levels and reduced interleukin-8, chemokine (C-C motif) ligand (CCL) 5, chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand (CXCL) 9, CCL2, and CXCL10 levels were noted. Findings suggested that Biyeom-go can be useful in managing the symptoms of rhinitis and the quality of life associated with rhinitis. To assess the effectiveness of Biyeom-go for rhinitis, further well-designed randomized controlled trials are required.
