Transversus abdominis plane block reduces pain and narcotic consumption after robot-assisted distal pancreatectomy
HPB Feb 07, 2019
Solis-Velasco MA, et al. - In this retrospective case-control study (June 2012 -Oct 2017), researchers tested bupivacaine transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block effects on opioid consumption and pain after robot-assisted distal pancreatectomy (RADP). Eighty-one RADP patients were eligible, 48 before and 33 after TAP. Findings suggested an association of bupivacaine TAP block with significant decreases in opioid consumption and pain after RADP but did not shorten hospital lengths of stay (LOS) consistent with bupivacaine's limited half-life.
