Transurethral resection of bladder cancer on the lateral bladder wall without obturator nerve block: Extent of adductor spasms using the monopolar vs bipolar technique- A prospective randomised study
World Journal of Urology Mar 06, 2018
Gramann T, et al. - Herein, the experts sought to assess if the bipolar transurethral resection of tumours (bTURB) on the lateral bladder wall was superior to monopolar transurethral resection (mTURB) of such tumours. Results suggested that complete, undisturbed resection of tumours of the lateral bladder wall was feasible with mTURB and bTURB. Due to obturator jerk, adductor spasms could occur suddenly with the risk of bladder perforation. Obturator nerve block (ONB) when using spinal anaesthesia and drug-induced relaxation when using general anaesthesia were supported by the experts when performing TURB on the lateral bladder wall.
