Transoral decompression and stabilization of the upper cervical segments of the spine using custom-made implants in various pathological conditions of the craniovertebral junction
World Neurosurgery Oct 05, 2017
Shkarubo AN, et al. - Authors here evaluated transoral decompression and stabilization of the upper cervical segments of the spine using custom-made implants in various pathological conditions of the craniovertebral junction. As per the first experience, anterior fixation using individually manufactured C1-C2 and C1-C3 systems was effective. This approach could be used as an alternative or in combination with standard posterior stabilization methods safely. Innovative surgical technology, developed and implemented in their surgical practice permitted optimization of the surgical technique, reduced the number of perioperative complications, eliminated movement restrictions in the cervical spine, improved motor activity and made earlier patient rehabilitation possible.
