Transmuscular quadratus lumborum and lateral femoral cutaneous nerve block in total hip arthroplasty
Clinical Journal of Pain Apr 16, 2021
Li J, Dai F, Ona Ayala KE, et al. - Since adequate pain control post-total hip arthroplasty is important for patient satisfaction and surgical outcome, researchers undertook this retrospective analysis in 210 elective total hip arthroplasty patients. Spinal anesthesia with periarticular injection (PAI) was administered to 132 participants in the control group, and transmuscular quadratus lumborum block and lateral femoral cutaneous nerve block in addition to spinal anesthesia and PAI was given to 78 patients in the treatment group. According to findings, not only improved analgesia, as suggested by lower pain scores and opioid reduction, but also accelerated recovery with shorter hospitalization and reduced hospitalization expense was conferred by addition of transmuscular quadratus lumborum and lateral femoral cutaneous nerve block in total hip arthroplasty.
