Transglottic corticosteroid injection for treatment of soft postintubation subglottic stenosis: A retrospective analysis of 26 children
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology Sep 23, 2019
Kaufmann J, et al. - For the treatment of postintubation stridor and dyspnoea between 2012 and 2018, 26 children [median (range) age of 1.9 (0.02–7.2) years and weight of 9.8 (1.8–25) kg] who underwent transglottic corticosteroid injection were determined and their records and endoscopy images were investigated to ascertain whether the formerly mentioned injection could be used as a first-line treatment for severe subglottic lesions after traumatic endotracheal intubation in children over surgical treatment. In children with severe postendotracheal intubation trauma, transglottic corticosteroid injections as first-line treatment can successfully resolve symptoms and prevent invasive surgery. There was no deterioration of clinical symptoms or endoscopic results in any of the patients.
