Transfer of fresh or frozen embryos: A randomized controlled trial
Human Reproduction Jan 14, 2021
Wong KM, Van Wely M, Verhoeve HR, et al. - Researchers conducted a single-centre, open label, two arm, parallel group, randomized controlled superiority trial with the aim to determine if IVF with frozen-thawed blastocyst transfer (freeze-all strategy) is more effective than IVF with fresh and frozen-thawed blastocyst transfer (conventional strategy). Two-hundred-and-five subfertile couples with any indication for IVF were randomly assigned to the freeze-all strategy (n = 102) or to the conventional strategy (n = 102). Significantly lower cumulative ongoing pregnancy rate per woman was noted in women allocated to the freeze-all strategy [19/102 (19%)] relative to women allocated to the conventional strategy [32/102 (31%)]. Outcomes overall suggest inferiority of the freeze-all strategy to the conventional strategy in terms of cumulative ongoing pregnancy rate per woman.
