Transcranial Doppler and lower extremity function in older adults: Einstein Aging Study
Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Nov 16, 2017
Ezzati A, et al. - This cross-sectional study was performed to ascertain if transcranial Doppler ultrasound (TCD) measures of mean blood flow velocity (MBFV) in the major cerebral arteries were correlated with measures of lower extremity function in community-dwelling older adults. The researchers found an association of low MBFV in the anterior and posterior cerebral circulation with worse lower extremity function as well as with balance in older adults. This could be suggestive of the importance of age-related changes in cerebral hemodynamics in the function of brain regions involved in specific aspects of physical performance.
