Transcranial alternating current stimulation at alpha frequency reduces pain when the intensity of pain is uncertain.

Arendsen LJ, et al. - Researchers here investigated if somatosensory alpha Transcranial alternating current stimulation at alpha frequency (alpha tACS) could reduce pain experience and whether this was influenced by uncertainty about pain intensity. Compared to sham stimulation, alpha tACS lowered both perceived pain intensity and unpleasantness. However, this was observed only when the intensity of an upcoming stimulus was uncertain. Thereby suggesting that Alpha tACS has the potential to alleviate pain, particularly when pain is uncertain
