Riaz H, et al. - In this work, researchers collected the data examining the safety and efficacy of transcatheter closure of patent foramen ovale (PFO) compared with medical therapy following an initial cryptogenic stroke. Findings suggested that compared to medical management, the transcatheter closure was correlated with a marked reduction in the risk of stroke at the expense of an increased risk of atrial arrhythmias.
