Transcanal endoscopic retrograde mastoidectomy for cholesteatoma: A prospective study
ENT Journal Apr 16, 2021
Shakya D, et al. - Researchers conducted this prospective study to assess the feasibility, morphological, and functional outcomes of endoscopic retrograde transcanal mastoidectomy. They looked at 31 patients who had endoscopic transcanal retrograde canal wall down mastoidectomy under general anesthesia and had chronic otitis media with cholesteatoma that extended to the mastoid cavity. Endoscopic retrograde mastoidectomy is a new technique with excellent results for treating cholesteatoma. It is more functional, ideal for sclerotic mastoid, allows for faster wound healing, produces excellent results, and is a minimally invasive procedure that avoids postauricular incision and tissue dissection. Because the setup for the surgery is less expensive, it holds a bright future for developing countries.
