Transbronchial cryobiopsy increases diagnostic confidence in interstitial lung disease: A prospective multicenter trial
European Respiratory Journal Aug 22, 2020
Hetzel J, Wells AU, Costabel U, et al. - Researchers investigated the effect of transbronchial lung cryobiopsy (TBLC) on the diagnostic evaluation of patients (n = 128) with suspected idiopathic intersitital pneumonia by a central multidisciplinary team discussion (MDTD) board (two both clinicians, radiologists, pathologists) in this prospective, multicenter, international study. They assessed the contribution of TBLC to the formulation of a confident first-choice MDTD diagnosis. Findings demonstrated that in most of the interstitial lung disease (ILD) cases with an uncertain non-invasive diagnosis, an increase in diagnostic confidence was afforded by TBLC along with manageable side effects. Integration of TBLC in the diagnostic algorithm for ILD is supported by these findings.
