Chen YY, Wang CC, Wu WT, et al. - Researchers used Cox proportional hazard models to examine the trajectories of return to work (RTW) and their impact on survival in workers with oral cancer. A total of 12,222 workers who were newly diagnosed with oral cancer and identified during the period from 2004 to 2015 were included. Overall, after a diagnosis of oral cancer, 8,793 workers returned to work in the first years. Findings suggested an inverse association of chemotherapy and radiation therapy with RTW. Employees with stage I, stage II, and stage III disease were related to an increased probability of RTW in the fifth year after diagnosis. According to this cohort study, sociodemographic and medical factors influence the RTW of cancer survivors. RTW may have a beneficial impact on the survival of oral cancer patients.
