Traditional serrated adenoma-like lesions in patients with inflammatory bowel disease
Human Pathology Mar 05, 2020
Miller GC, et al. - Since the significance of serrated lesions resembling traditional serrated adenoma (TSA) in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients is not clear, researchers examined 52 TSA-like lesions arising in 30 IBD patients and diagnosed in colectomy or endoscopic specimens. According to this retrospective study, none of the individuals with lesions showing TSA-type cytology only developed an advanced lesion. None of the 52 TSA-like lesions showed a loss of MLH1 or SATB2 expression by immunohistochemistry. Some TSA-like lesions, essentially from colectomy, can represent a form of IBD-associated dysplasia correlated with an increased risk of advanced neoplasia.
