Trabecular metal cones combined with short cemented stem allow favorable outcomes in aseptic revision total knee arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty Sep 25, 2020
Jacquet C, Ros F, Guy S, et al. - This study was undertaken to compare the functional outcomes and implant survivorship at a minimum of 5 years of follow-up of several reconstruction techniques with or without metaphyseal cone and stems of variable length. Researchers conducted a retrospective comparative matched analysis from 2 prospectively collected databases. This analysis enrolled about 99 patients; 33 in the trabecular metal (TM) + short stem group, 33 in the TM + long stem (LS) group, and 33 in the no cone + LS group. At a minimum of 5 years of follow-up, the use of a short cemented tibial stem combined with a TM cone in revision total knee arthroplasty serves identical survival rates with better functional outcomes compared with the use of a long uncemented stem associated with TM cones or metallic augments.
