Tourniquet use and factors associated with hematoma formation in free tissue transfer
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Jan 24, 2020
Britt CJ, Hwang MS, Vila PM, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to understand the variables associated with hematoma formation at both the donor and recipient sites in head and neck free tissue transfer, and whether tourniquet use affects hematoma rates. One thousand four hundred ten patients were identified who had free tissue transfer at three institutions, specifically either a radial forearm free flap or a fibula free flap, between 2007 and 2017. According to findings, heparin Drips and DVT prophylaxis in free-flap individuals significantly increased hematoma rates while tourniquets did not affect hematoma rates.
