Total shoulder arthroplasty with minimum 5-year follow-up: Does the presence of subchondral cysts in the glenoid increase risk of failure?
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Jan 07, 2018
Tanner G, et al. - Researchers undertook this investigation to assess the impact of cystic changes in the glenoid on postoperative outcomes and implant survival after total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA). Findings demonstrated a correlation between qualitative computed tomography evaluation of cystic osteoarthritis and quantitative analysis of cyst volume. A higher risk of failure at midterm follow-up was more likely reported in the presence of severe cyst formation. Additionally, no impact of cystic disease on functional outcome or the presence of radiographic glenoid loosening was evident.
