Total laparoscopic hysterectomy without uterine manipulator. A retrospective study of 1,023 cases
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Aug 29, 2020
Zygouris D, Chalvatzas N, Gkoutzioulis A, et al. - Researchers examined the feasibility and safety of performing a total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) without the use of a uterine manipulator in women with benign indications for hysterectomy. A TLH without the use of any type of uterine manipulator was performed in 1,023 patients between January 2011 and January 2020. Outcomes support the feasibility and safety of performing a TLH without the use of a uterine manipulator. While this procedure is perhaps more demanding for young doctors, when performed by well-trained and experienced laparoscopic surgeons, the procedure is associated with a short operative time and a low complications rate. They emphasize it to be the first step in the training of young doctors for conducting laparoscopic radical hysterectomies.
