Total knee replacement in osteoarthritis patients on reducing the risk of major adverse cardiac events: A 18-year retrospective cohort study
Osteoarthritis and Cartilage Nov 20, 2021
Yeh HW, Chan CH, Yang SF, et al. - Total knee replacement (TKR) receipt in knee osteoarthritis (OA) cases conferred reduction in the risks of mortality and major cardiovascular events (MACEs) vs its non-receipt. At 1-year follow-up, the TKR group received a decreased dosage of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
The Longitudinal Health Insurance Database 2000 was used in this population-based cohort study to assess the risks of mortality and MACEs in knee OA patients who underwent TKR.
A total of 189,708 patients with a new diagnosis of knee OA between 2000 and 2017 were identified and 10,314 propensity-score-paired TKR and non-TKR people were analyzed.
As demonstrated by the propensity score matching cohort algorithm, the TKR group had lower risk of mortality or MACEs (adjusted hazard ratio: 0.791; 95% confidence interval: 0.755–0.830) compared with the non-TKR group.
