Total knee arthroplasty after intramedullary tibial nail: a matched cohort study
Journal of Arthroplasty Mar 25, 2020
Kolz JM, et al. - This study was undertaken to compare implant survivorship, clinical outcomes, and complications in individuals undergoing primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with a history of tibial intramedullary nails (IMNs) to those without. Between 2000 and 2017, researchers retrospectively distinguished 24 TKAs conducted after ipsilateral tibial IMN. Individuals were compared 1:2 to individuals undergoing primary TKA without history of tibial IMN based upon age, gender, body mass index, and year of surgery (mean follow-up was 7 year). In patients with a history of ipsilateral tibial IMN, this is the first report of primary TKA. These individuals have similar results in regards to implant survivorship, clinical outcomes, and risk of complications compared with a matched cohort of individuals without tibial IMN.
