Total hip arthroplasty revision surgery: Impact of morbidity on perioperative outcomes
Journal of Arthroplasty Aug 27, 2020
Pfluger MJ, Fromel DE, Meurer A, et al. - This study was intended to examine prospectively collected institutional database for patients who had undergone revision total hip arthroplasty (THA) at the institution (Orthopedic University Hospital Friedrichsheim, Frankfurt) between 2007 and 2011. Individuals were categorized according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists category and a number of comorbidities. Researchers examined their effect on perioperative parameters. During the study period, the database revealed 294 cases of revision THA. It was shown that in revision THA, poor physical health condition is correlated with negative perioperative outcomes. For evaluation of perioperative risk, especially cardiac comorbidities are linked to unfavorable outcomes, which have important implications.
