Total cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio is a significant predictor of nonalcoholic fatty liver: Jinchang cohort study
Lipids in Health and Disease Feb 15, 2019
Ren XY, et al. - Based on the Jinchang Cohort, researchers studied the predictive ability of the ratio of total cholesterol (TC) to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) for nonalcoholic fatty liver (NAFLD). There were 32,121 participants in the study. The cumulative incidence of NAFLD was 6.30% and the rate of dyslipidemia was 40.37% among the study participants. According to findings, incidence of NAFLD increased as the quartiles of TC, triglyceride (TG) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) increased, but decreased as the HDL-C′ quartiles increased. The study findings suggested that the TC/HDL-C ratio has a significant predictive ability with regard to NAFLD.
