Topical tranexamic acid for the treatment of acute epistaxis in the Emergency Department

The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Mar 31, 2018

Birmingham AR, et al. - The effectiveness and potential benefits of topical tranexamic acid (TXA) in the management of acute epistaxis were investigated. In this work, patients with acute epistaxis treated with topical TXA or standard care did not demonstrate a significant difference in Emergency Department (ED) length of stay (LOS). However, findings seemed supporting the association of TXA with a reduction in resource utilization, indicating its potential for providing more effective bleeding control.
