Topical combination of fluorouracil and calcipotriene as palliative therapy for refractory extramammary Paget disease
JAMA Dermatology Feb 24, 2019
Molina GE, et al. - Investigators analyzed 3 females to examine the utility and efficiency of a topical combination of fluorouracil and calcipotriene as palliative treatment for refractory extramammary Paget disease (EMPD) (rare intraepithelial adenocarcinoma) in this retrospective case series. The candidates were instructed to apply 1:1 mixture of fluorouracil, 5%, cream and calcipotriene, 0.005%, cream. They observed clinical improvement in symptoms and lesions in all 3 cases with histopathological signs of decreased tumor burden in 2 cases. They noticed the frequent recurrence of EMPD even after aggressive surgical management. Hence, they suggested palliative topical treatment with combined fluorouracil and calcipotriene as a viable alternative for such cases.
