Kuriyama A, et al. - Benzydamine hydrochloride, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, was tested as a preventive against the development of postoperative sore throat in adults undergoing elective surgery under general anaesthesia, when applied topically. High-quality evidence demonstrated that with no significant adverse events, benzydamine was associated with a decreased incidence of postoperative sore throat but not with significantly reduced severity. Furthermore, relative to lidocaine, benzydamine was also associated with a reduced incidence of postoperative sore throat.
