Tophus size is associated with hallux valgus deformity in gout
European Journal of Clinical Investigation Dec 11, 2017
Blandin C, et al. - An inquiry was set up in order to examine the association between tophus size and characteristics of Hallux valgus (HV) in gouty patients. The authors illustrated a high prevalence of HV in gouty patients. The yielded results shed light on the link between the size of the ultrasound (US) tophus and the angles defining HV. This, in turn, pointed towards a connection between urate deposition load and HV. The occurrence of HV could be limited via an early urate-lowering therapy for gout.
