Tonsil size and outcome of uvulopalatopharyngoplasty with tonsillectomy in obstructive sleep apnea
The Laryngoscope Mar 16, 2019
Tschopp S, et al. - Authors estimated the data to evaluate the association of tonsil volume and grade on consequences of uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) with tonsillectomy in subjects with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in this retrospective cohort analysis. They found an association of tonsil grade and volume with preoperative apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) but not with postoperative AHI. An increase in the decline of AHI after surgery was correlated with larger volume and higher tonsil grade. Although, they reported no postoperative impact on daytime sleepiness and snoring reduction with tonsil size and volume, which meant that these parameters were mainly affected by other factors.
