To admit or not to admit? Experience with outpatient thyroidectomy for Graves' disease in a high-volume tertiary care center

Mallick R, et al. - Given that thyroidectomy for Graves' disease has greater risk of periprocedural complications, researchers investigated whether or not these patients be managed with ambulatory surgery. On reviewing outcomes of 41 Graves' patients undergoing outpatient thyroidectomy, they identified outpatient total thyroidectomy as safe and effective with acceptable morbidity for these patients. In this work, the complication rates were compatible with published values.
