TNF inhibitor treatment is associated with a lower risk of hand osteoarthritis progression in rheumatoid arthritis patients after 10 years

Loef M, et al. - The experts evaluated in recent-onset rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients, the effect of TNF inhibitors (TNFis) on incidental and progressive hand OA following a 10-year follow-up. After 10 years, in DIP joints, TNFi treatment was related to a reduced risk of radiographic hand OA progression but such a link was not observed in PIP joints. These results provided evidence for influence of TNF-α in hand OA pathogenesis.
