TNFα and IL-17A are differentially expressed in psoriasis-like vs. eczema-like drug reactions to TNF antagonists
Journal of Cutaneous Pathology Oct 13, 2017
Deubelbeiss C, et al. - This study pursued a comparative scrutiny of the expression of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) and IL-17A in psoriasis-like with eczema-like drug reactions to TNF antagonists. Both TNFα and IL-17A exhibited an involvement in psoriasis but less so in non-psoriasiform dermatitis or eczema. Their overexpression in pustular like reactions (PPR) appeared to be plausible which indicated that the pathogenesis of PPR was similar at least in part, to those of psoriasis. In order to define the exact role of these cytokines in rare cutaneous side effects of anti-TNFα therapy additional analysis was required. It was inferred that IL-17A inhibition could serve a therapeutic option in patients with anti-TNF induced psoriasis.
