TLR7/8 agonists stimulate plasmacytoid dendritic cells to initiate a Th17-deviated acute contact dermatitis in humans

The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology Oct 06, 2017

Garzorz-Stark N, et al. - This study investigated the potential of a human imiquimod patch test model to resemble human psoriasis. Findings demonstrated that imiquimod induced contact dermatitis in humans, with the distinctive feature that pDC (plasmacytoid dendritic cell), were the primary sensors, leading to an IL-23/Th17 deviation. Overall, data indicated the possible utility of the human imiquimod model in investigating early pathogenic events and proving molecular concepts in psoriasis.
