Tissue adhesive for wound closure in enhanced-recovery total hip arthroplasty: a prospective, randomized and controlled study
BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders Mar 27, 2020
Kong X, et al. - Researchers sought to present experience of adopting tissue adhesive as adjunct to standard wound closure in total hip arthroplasty (THA) and evaluate its performance. They prospectively included a total of 30 consecutive patients who had undergone simultaneous bilateral THA in this randomized and controlled study between September 2019 and November 2019. They applied standard wound closure on one side of hip, while additional tissue adhesive was used on the other side at random. The patients’ information, including age, gender, BMI, diagnosis, postoperative length of stay, dressing changes, wound evaluation scores, wound-related cost and complications were obtained and analyzed. It was indicated that tissue adhesive could significantly decrease wound drainage and raise patients’ satisfaction, which can be an ideal adjunct to standard wound closure in improved-recovery THA.
