Tinnitus perception in patients after vagal nerve stimulator implantation for epilepsy
American Journal of Otolaryngology Jul 16, 2018
Wichova H, et al. - Researchers retrospectively reviewed the impact of vagal nerve stimulator (VNS) on perception of tinnitus in epilepsy patients, and explored the occurrence of tinnitus and its perceived reduction in patients needing VNS implantation for medically refractory seizures. In patients with refractory epilepsy, the potential of vagal nerve stimulation to alter the perception of tinnitus was assessed. Following VNS implantation, some level of subjective tinnitus improvement was noted in 80% of patients. Given this finding, in patients with epilepsy, a potential additional benefit to the use of VNS was seen.
