Gundel O, et al. - The diagnostic timing of surgical site infections and pulmonary complications after laparotomy were investigated. Researchers recognized that postoperative complication developed in a high percentage of patients undergoing laparotomy. Surgical site infection (19.6%) developed most commonly; at a median time of 10 days after surgery. The corresponding figures for anastomotic leakage was 5.7%, 8 days; pneumonia 3.5%, 5 days; and respiratory failure 2.3%, 3 days.
