Timing of surgery in traumatic spinal cord injury: A national, multidisciplinary survey
European Spine Journal Mar 30, 2018
ter Wengel PV, et al. - Experts investigate whether the severity of initial neurological injury influences the surgeons on their decision-making of surgical timing in traumatic spinal cord injury (tSCI). Findings suggest that an important role is played by the severity of initial neurological injury in the urgency of surgical timing for tSCI. They note that the preferable treatment of a substantial number of patients with complete tSCI is not done within the recommended surgical timeframe, while, patients with incomplete tSCI are preferably operated far more urgent than recommended in the current guidelines.
