Timing of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase inhibitor initiation and allograft vasculopathy progression and outcomes in heart transplant recipients
ESC Heart Failure Jul 27, 2018
Asleh R, et al. - In a large contemporary heart transplantation (HT) cohort, including 409 adult HT recipients, researchers determined the impact of early statin (ES) vs late statin (LS) initiation post-transplantation on long-term cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) progression and clinical outcomes. They compared CAV progression and clinical outcomes between the ES (< 2 years after HT) and the LS (> 2 years after HT) groups. They documented reduced CAV progression as well as decreased CAV-related events and mortality in relation to early initiation of statin therapy post-HT.
