Timely follow-up of positive cancer screening results: A systematic review and recommendations from the PROSPR Consortium
CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians Apr 08, 2018
Doubeni CA, et al. - Researchers assessed published data regarding time to follow-up after a positive screening for breast, cervical, colorectal, and lung cancers. As per the obtained evidence, longer wait times, that varied within and across cancer types, increased the risk for poorer cancer outcomes. Therefore, performing diagnostic testing as soon as feasible after the positive result was supported. They found limited evidence for specific time targets. Considering patient worry, potential for loss to follow-up with prolonged wait times, and available resources by thresholds set was recommended.
