Time intervals from onset of clinical manifestations to treatment in patients with cancer at Hospital General San Felipe, Tegucigalpa, Honduras
Journal of Global Oncology Sep 11, 2019
Sánchez JA, et al. - Via this cross-sectional study run from April 25 to August 30, 2018, researchers investigated time intervals from onset of symptoms to treatment of cancer among 202 patients at the main cancer referral center in Honduras. After obtaining informed consent, they included patients older than age 18 years in this study. As per the findings, the mean time interval from symptom presentation to treatment in patients with cancer was estimated to be more than 7 months. This could explain the advanced stages of disease observed at the time of treatment in Honduras, which reduces the likelihood of cure and raise the mortality rate of cancer). In order to attenuate mortality, the necessity of suitable intervention to reduce these intervals was highlighted.
