Time course of platelet counts in relation to the neurologic outcome in patients undergoing targeted temperature management after cardiac arrest
Resuscitation May 31, 2019
Kim HJ, et al. - Researchers reviewed 261 consecutive patients who received targeted temperature management (TTM) following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) between 2009 and 2016 in order to assess the time course of platelet counts relative to the neurologic outcome in these patients. Outcomes revealed poor neurologic outcomes 6 months after CA in 175 patients (67.0%). They noted a biphasic pattern in the changes in platelet counts in OHCA patients. Patients with good neurologic outcomes were significantly different from those with poor neurologic outcomes at 6 months. They noted a poor neurologic outcome and mortality at 6 months in correlation to a low platelet count 7 days after CA.
