Time course of metabolic, neuroendocrine and adipose effects during 2 years of follow-up after rygb in patients with t2d
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism Jun 09, 2021
Almby KE, Katsogiannos P, Pereira MJ, et al. - A single-center randomized study was conducted to explore neuroendocrine and metabolic changes over time in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients undergoing Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery (RYGB). Researchers compared 13 patients with obesity and T2D with 22 healthy individuals. They obtained blood chemistry, adipose biopsies and heart rate variability before and 4, 24 and 104 weeks post-RYGB. The data showed that after RYGB, neuroendocrine pathways can partly mediate early glycemic improvement, and adipose factors may promote long-term insulin sensitivity and normoglycemia.
