Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) vaccine failures: A ten-year retrospective study supporting the rationale for adding an extra priming dose in individuals from the age of 50 years
Clinical Infectious Diseases Mar 16, 2019
Hansson K, et al. - Researchers analyzed patients with tick borne encephalitis (TBE) via the notification database at the Department of Communicable Disease Control and Prevention in Stockholm (2006-2015) in order to assess vaccine failures and improve vaccination recommendations in the future. In this cohort of TBE-vaccine failures, they identified a total of 1,004 TBE cases, with vaccine failures noted in 5%. Observations revealed the rarity of vaccine failure after five TBE-vaccine doses. For those 50 years of age and older, data supported adding an extra priming dose.
